Quotation One

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” Winston Churchill

The first quote talks about pessimism and how the pessimist has trouble  achieving his goals because whenever he comes across a problem he will look for reasons or excuses as to why he should just give up. This makes it difficult for a person like this to achieve their goals because they have that mindset that they will not be able to accomplish something they attempt, so instead they choose to tear down other people's beliefs and goals.
A pessimist has trouble accomplishing their goals because they will usually also have trouble with perseverance. The negative mindset that they have means that when the going gets tough, they believe that they should just quit because they won't be able to attain or accomplish their goals. You can tell just by the sarcasm in someone's voice or their body language that they are a pessimist. Sometimes people disassociate themselves from people like this, which means that a pessimists only friends become other pessimists. It's very tough to break the cycle of negativity if you don't have a good support system around you because even if you do something you feel proud of; a pessimist will just tear you down, hoping it will build themselves up..
The Speaker is Winston Churchill, an English Politician and Prime Minister from 1940-1945 and again from 1951-1955. He was also an officer in the British army, a historian, an author, and an artist. He is the only British Prime Minister to have received the Nobel Prize in Literature, which might have been because of his great quotes like the one above. Because of the fact that he's most famous for his work in politics, I believe that Churchill probably said this quote during a speech or political event. This quote relates well to pessimism because Churchill himself is helping ME determine the differences between a pessimist and optimist. This quote is significant because just like in my response above; Churchill talks about the negative thoughts someone can have, and how their psyche can affect their view on the world around them. It's great to find a quote that is trying to accomplish what I have set out to do in this tapestry...
